Chris Ascroft - 'Bazza' 08/09/1956 – 01/02/2022

It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of club stalwart and past President Chris Ascroft. universally known as Bazza.
Bazza played upwards of 500 games for the club, across four decades, in the First XV from the late 70s, and even continuing to turn out for the Second and Third XVs well into his forties.
Elected President for the 2002/2003 season, Bazza declared his intention to be a very visible and active President, and as well as taking on the traditional role of figurehead for the club, he also assumed the role of Touch Judge, donning his tracksuit for every league game during his tenure, whatever the weather! He proved to be a lucky charm as the First XV won the league at a canter, winning 17 of 18 league games. His desire to be a ‘hands on’ President saw him complete his presidential year by leading the senior tour to Copenhagen!
In recent years, come rain or shine, Bazza continued to support the club as he, and his late father Gordon, always had, proudly donning his club blazer at VPs lunches and Sportman’s Dinners, he was the sort of man that clubs like ours are built on, and he will be very sadly missed.
The committee, players and members of Huntingdon & District RUFC extend our deepest sympathies to Zoe, Jonathan and Clare, and his grandchildren, Henry and Harriet, at this sad time.
