Huntingdon & District 65 – 0 Northampton Mens Own
Stags continued their recent run of good form on Saturday, stretching their winning run to 3 games, with a comprehensive victory over visitors Northampton Mens Own.
After some even exchanges in the opening stages of the game, Stags broke the deadlock after 8 minutes with a try for Nick Vallance from a driven lineout. This was followed by 3 more tries in the first half from Nick Saunders, Charlie Saunders and Jamie Gunn, as well as a penalty and 2 conversions from Joe Hicken, meaning Stags headed into the half time oranges with the bonus point already guaranteed.
Rather than resting on their laurels, if anything, Stags got better after the break, as the whitewash was crossed regularly, with a further six tries added in the second half from Jack Skidmore, Hicken, Rory Parker, a second of the afternoon for Charlie Saunders, replacement Tango Morgan, and a well deserved try for Simon Rose to complete the scoring, with Hicken successful from the tee on three occasions to add the extras.
The result means Stags have scored over 170 points in the last 3 games, having only scored 57 in the previous 5 matches!
The 5 point win sees the Stags rise to 6th in the league standings, equal on 18 points with 5th placed Bedford Queens, who they visit this coming Saturday.
