This season has seen a huge number of U6 players join the Stags family. The U6s are headed up by former long-standing 1st XV player, PE Teacher and all-roun good guy Chris Pape and here is what he had to say about our next generation of Stags:
To date over 42 Reception and year 1 students have chosen Huntingdon as the place to start their rugby careers. We have been delighted with the enthusiasm, determination and skill set from the brilliant group of young players that have joined so far. The mix of fun games, skills, competition, cooperation and team work from our super-stags has been amazing to see.
Especially in this year of uncertainly where inactivity has been forced upon us, the chance to spend some time on Sundays running about, having fun, learning some core skills will hopefully help our youngsters benefit both physically and mentally.
The key focus for all our players is that they have fun and form friendships, as well as developing skills. We welcome all who wish to join and have a diverse mix of experience, skill levels, gender and confidence, the only thing we ask is that everyone ‘tries’ their best!
We can’t wait to see our young stag-lings as they grow into the next generation of George Furbanks!
In fact many of the current U6 coaching team play for the Huntingdon Stags 1st xv and colts teams and are on hand to help our players grow and develop!
